The resort of Les Gets in summer, an owners view

It is normal for us to share our ‘summer best bits’ with you at this time of year. The French Alps provide a unique, restorative and adrenaline-filled holiday experience for families, couples and groups of friends during the summer months. But don’t just take our word for it. Instead, we asked Marie Walker, an apartment owner at Annapurna in Les Gets, for her thoughts on summer holidays in the mountains.
Marie purchased her Alpine Lodges apartment at our Annapurna residence in 2018. Along with her family, she discovered the resort of Les Gets and was attracted to its village charm and the family-friendly feel. “It’s a lovely village!” Marie explains. “We love the fact the so many local people live here, which makes it lively and vibrant all year round.”
Here, Marie tells us about her family holidays in Les Gets.
Les Gets in its summer dress!

“How often do you visit Les Gets and your Annapurna property each year?

We usually come for a few weeks throughout the winter season and we come in the summer, as we love it so much at this time of year. Les Gets is a great place to recharge the batteries and get the kids active!
Do your days in Les Gets during the summer have a routine?
We always start with a lovely breakfast of croissants and a baguette from the local bakery (the French touch!). We are out and about every day doing lots of different activities. We sometimes take a picnic and have lunch in the mountains, or we go to all the amazing restaurants in the area. We usually come back late afternoon and kick back in the spa at Annapurna whilst the kids have a splash in the swimming pool.
The wellness area of the Annapurna residence.
What is your favourite activity in Les Gets during the summer months?
I’m not sure where to start! We walk every day with our dog, he loves it. The views are breathtaking and there are so many trails for every level, making it easy to walk with little ones too!
We love to go to lac de Montriond, which is our favourite place in the world! We go kayaking or paddle boarding, my girls love the high ropes courses through the trees and can spend the whole day up in the forests enjoying fun adventures. My children also love rock climbing and have been doing it a few times now. The next time we visit Les Gets in winter, we want to see the huskies and go sledding with them.
We also love watching all the mountain bikers going down the trails of Les Gets whilst we enjoy an aperitif! The Lac de écoles area is also a favourite of ours, the Wibit inflatables are so much fun. Via Ferrata is also on our mind when the girls are a bit bigger.
Do you find the atmosphere in the village changes between the summer and winter months?
We love the summer atmosphere. There are lots of fêtes and amazing activities organised within the village itself. The mountains in summer are beautiful and we feel energised as soon as we arrive in Les Gets. We don’t have the same routine as in winter as we don’t have ski school to go to, and this makes it more relaxing in my opinion. The village is buzzing with all the cyclists, we find it invigorating!
What are your favourite places to eat in the village?
We do love the restaurants of Les Gets! At Vina Annapurna, the in-house restaurant within our residence, the food and service are always stunning. We often enjoy an aperitif and lunch at Hotel le Bellevue on the Chavannes, where the staff are so nice and always welcoming. We also like the BBQ evening at La Biskatcha, as they have a play room to entertain the children. One of our favourite walks in the mountains takes us to le Vaffieu on a plateau between Les Gets and Morzine for a very welcome stop. There are so many restaurants to choose from!
The Vina Annapurna restaurant in Les Gets.
Do you and your family travel further afield to other villages or towns during your summer holidays? Where would you recommend?
We go to Sixt-Fer-à-Cheval for the breathtaking views and walks. There you’ll find pony riding and our girls love it. We also go to Avoriaz and the goat village in les Lindarets. It is such a good day out. We love going to Morzine for the luge and Lac des Mines D’or too.
What is the best thing about Les Gets during the summer season?
We love the buzzing village, the activities and the spectacular views that Les Gets has to offer. The community has been working so hard to make it a vibrant village and it has really succeeded. We love being outdoor every day, away from screens and in a place that has so much to offer for little ones as well as grown ups! It is such a privilege to come back year after year and enjoy the summer mountain life. We always recommend Les Gets to our friends, suggesting that they come along and discover the mountains in summer. If some of them were not convinced at first, they have all changed their mind and now opt for a holiday in Les Gets instead of the beach!”

When Marie and her family are not enjoying their Annapurna apartment, they rent it for the enjoyment of other holiday makers through Alpine Residences. “The team at Alpine Residences are always eager to help. As we live in the UK, it’s great to know they are on hand; this gives us peace of mind!”

Les Gets – 90 years on the slopes

It’s only when we look back to the early days of the ski industry that we see how far we’ve come. It’s for this reason that the Les Gets lift operating company SaGets has published a beautiful new coffee table book to celebrate the characters of the mountains. Titled ‘Un Domaine de Caractères’ (it’s published in both French and English), the book dives deep into the inner workings of the ski resort and includes a plethora of fascinating images charting the growth of the village.
The book discovers 90 years of development in Les Gets.

“SaGets was born 30 years ago. At that time our skis were thinner and longer, our suits were brightly-coloured and our lips were fluorescent,” recounts Mélanie Marullaz in her introduction. Of course all mountain resorts have pioneers – those locals bold enough to stake a claim in the future of winter sports. Yet the book introduces us to Les Gets pre-ski, before the war even. We see the soul of the traditional alpine village come to life, the first lift pylons erected, the first ski schools founded.
One of the very first piste maps of Les Gets is included in the book. It’s fascinating to see how the pistes and lifts have changed and expanded over the years. We’re also introduced to Marc Bergoend, former Head of Operations in the resort and with no fewer than 42 years of service under his belt. “We sort of did what we pleased,” Marc says of the early days. “To build a new piste we would chop the trees, run the bulldozer through and that was it.” When he retired, Marc had overseen the installation of over a dozen new ski lifts in Les Gets.
Let the good times roll!

Les Gets is as proud of its cultural heritage and the preservation of its authentic mountain spirit as it is of its infrastructure development and forward-thinking attitude. In just 90 years the village has changed from a small peasant village to a world-class ski area. But what’s next? ‘Then and Now’ images throughout the book demonstrate the need for preservation.
Discover how the resort balances heritage and development.

The book concludes with an extensive and thorough ‘day in the life’ of resort operations during both the winter and summer months. It’s unique and fascinating to see behind the scenes as Laëtitia Anthonioz, ski patroller, prepares the pistes for opening at 08.41. Cédric Martin carries out his safety checks before opening the Ranfoilly chairlift before Noreddine Fatnassi begins his ski patrol on the Tulipe piste. Les Gets has many characters to offer us.
Spot your favourite Les Gets ski lifts throughout the book.

Un Domaine de Caractères is a book published by SaGets and is available to purchase on the SaGets website. Postage to the UK can also be arranged and we think the books make the perfect gift for the Les Gets lover in your life.
Of course Les Gets is home to several Alpine Residences developments including Kinabalu, which is brand new for the Winter 21 season. Inside you’ll find our indulgent Sapana Spa, which offers relaxing massages and energizing treatments to both Kinabalu residents and non-residents too (see the treatments menu here). Long-staying guests enjoy a 40% discount this winter as part of our Off-Piste special offer – it’s perfect if you’re tele-working or looking for a change of scenery!

Say Hello to Kinabalu, Les Gets

The moment approaches. We’ll soon welcome our very first skiers to Kinabalu, our exceptional new residence in Les Gets.
Kinabalu is no ordinary holiday accommodation. Designed with the discerning skier in mind, our new apartments are located in the centre of Les Gets, just 100 metres from the Mont Chery ski lift and the very heart of the resort. 650km of Portes du Soleil pistes, spanning both France and Switzerland, are on your doorstep.
But of course, it’s the facilities inside Kinabalu that provide the real showstopper. Akin to the most luxurious resort hotels, our latest residence provides 5* facilities and services, including a highly skilled and experienced reception team to provide the warmest of welcomes. Additionally, our dedicated concierge loves nothing more than helping our guests plan their very best day on the mountain. Our private ski room, Annaski is also available exclusively for guests at Kinabalu, giving you the opportunity to hire an impressive range of equipment from our resident experts.

Having spent years developing some of the most prestigious holiday residences in the Alps, we know that no holiday is complete without the finest food. We’re therefore pleased to launch our new trattoria italiana Bokka, our very own Italian-themed restaurant with an exciting, contemporary menu.

What’s New in Les Gets for Winter 2019 / 20

Les Gets is one of our absolute favourite ski resorts because it has a little bit of everything. Tree-lined, family friendly slopes; easy access the Les Portes du Soleil, one of the world’s largest ski areas; an excellent selection of bars and restaurants to suit all tastes and budgets; a charming, traditional village atmosphere, and to top it all off it’s just over an hour away from Geneva Airport. So what’s new in Les Gets this winter? We’re excited to inform you that the answer is quite a lot! Read on to find out.

Intermediate skier and snowboarders will be able to enjoy a new blue slope down to Les Perrieres. Image: V Ducrettet / Les Gets Office de Tourisme

New Pistes

Residents of our K2 apartments will be happy about this! Les Gets is always endeavouring to improve its slopes, and the resort team has been busy this summer building a new blue run in the Perrières sector of the ski area. The new piste will take skiers and snowboarders to the bottom of the Perrières chairlift and the Perrières car park. This is a popular area of Les Gets as it provides direct access to the ski area for anyone staying at the far end of town, as well as those driving from further down the valley. This new blue run will be a welcome addition for beginner and intermediate skiers, who would previously have had to return via a red.

For those who want a little extra fitness and fresh air, there will also be a new ski touring piste over on Mont Chèry. Perfect for beginner and experienced tourers alike, this new slope will be reserved for going uphill only, starting from the base of the gondola and finishing at the summit of Mont Chèry.

New snowmaking facilities in progress in Les Gets.

New Snowmaking Facilities

Les Gets has made heavy investments in its snowmaking facilities for the coming winter, ensuring that the most popular areas of the resort will be accessible right from the word go. The €7 million project consists of the new Renardière hillside reservoir and new snow cannons covering high-traffic pistes. The reservoir has the capacity to provide enough water for 150,000m³ of snow, while new snow cannons will expand the area of artificial snow coverage from 35% to 50% – that’s an increase of almost half. Les Gets plans to continue the project over future years, which will result in snow cannon coverage over 75% of the resort. This is currently the largest investment in snowmaking in France and Les Gets have taken pains to make the project as environmentally friendly as possible.

A Snowy Play Area for Kids

Les Gets is known by many as a family-friendly resort, and even holds a ‘Famille Plus’ certification to prove it. This winter the resort introduces le Bankids, a snowy play area for little ones aged between two and six. This mini North Pole includes a snow-ball wall, ice caves, igloos and more to help kids make the most of the snow. While your littlest ones are generally too small to ski all day, at le Bankids they’ll be able to carry on having outdoor fun and learn to appreciate the snow in all its forms. You’ll find this winter wonderland ideally located behind the Les Gets Mairie and next to the ESF nursery slopes, and it’ll be open seven days a week throughout the winter.

Les Gets offers amazing views of Mont Blanc. Image: G Piel / Les Gets Office de Tourisme

‘In to the Void’ Views from Le Ranfoilly

This winter Les Gets is introducing a new viewing platform at the top of the Ranfoilly chairlift, and you can even get your picture taken! The 27m² platform extends out from the top of Les Gets’ highest peak and looks over the Lac de Joux Plane, as well as the breath-taking Mont Blanc. You can also make the most of the automated camera on the platform; just scan your lift pass and it’ll take a photo of you and your ski buddies, complete with the iconic view in the background. You can even upload the photos directly to your social media.

P.S. Look out for a new webcam at the top of Le Ranfoilly this winter, too. It’ll provide panoramic views over the entire resort so you can see how the weather and snow conditions are looking before you hit the slopes.

Fancy a picnic? Image: Keno Derleyn / Les Gets Office de Tourisme

A Luxury Picnic Area on the Slopes

Looking for a sheltered and cosy spot to eat your snacks, enjoy a home-made lunch or have a quick warm-up before getting out on the slopes again? Well, look no further, as this year Les Gets has invested in a luxury picnic area. This excellent addition to the resort will come kitted out with barbecues, charging points and even WiFi – and it’s available to everyone. Vina Annapurna in Les Gets Ranked No. 1 on TripAdvisor

This summer marked a year since the opening of our second exclusive restaurant, Vina Annapurna in Les Gets. Located in our award-winning Annapurna development in the centre of Les Gets, Vina Annapurna is our only restaurant to be open throughout the year, and what a great year it’s been! The restaurant has gone from strength to strength, offering a delicious seasonal menu with a focus on regional produce and modern French cuisine, alongside fantastic customer service and events. Following an excellent summer season, the team announced that the restaurant was ranked number one on popular travel ratings website, TripAdvisor, out of 58 other restaurants in Les Gets.

Vina Annapurna bridges the gap between fine dining and simple pleasures.

“A great night in Vina Annapurna last night. A very nice diner and a very good jazz band. We loved it!” – Peterhull1963

Featuring a casual and comfortable atmosphere with a menu suited to all tastes, ages and budgets, Vina Annapurna has received excellent reviews since it opened in May 2018. And it’s all down to the hard work of our food and beverage team, who’ve pulled out all the stops when it comes to service and events. From wine recommendations to local knowledge, they really know their stuff! One of the highlights has been regular jazz nights, with performances from local singer, Tania Ivanov, accompanied by a range of local musicians.

The classic Vina Annapurna Caesar salad.

“We had a fantastic dinner at Vina Annapurna, from the plate of charcuterie and cheese to the lightest mousse au chocolat I ever had. We had really good advice on the wine, and we had the pleasure to meet the chef at the end of our dinner. The service was irreproachable and we will definitely come back for our next trip to Les Gets.” – Marie-Sophie B

Vina Annapurna also enjoys a stunning menu created by our Michelin-trained executive chef,Antony Trezy. The menu is carefully designed and beautifully varied, ranging from tapas-style starters to a tasty burger, or the classic Vina Annapurna Caesar salad. Alongside the fantastic food you’ll also find a magnificent wine list, coffee selection and cocktails. Plus, a kids’ menu and a very affordable €17.50 plat du jour during the day make the Vina Annapurna not only popular with locals after a quick bite at lunch time, but as a destination for special occasions such as birthdays and anniversaries. The Autumn menu is up and running tomorrow, on 18th September, and we’re happy to tell you its carefully selected collection of dishes doesn’t disappoint.

This summer saw the addition of a beautiful new terrace.

“We stumbled into Vina Annapurna as there was nowhere else open in Les Gets as we were out of season. We were well rewarded – fabulous food and reasonably priced. Double bubble! Friendly service too. Menu limited as out of season but everything looked great. Good wine list too and tables or comfy sofas to lounge in.” – Cwtch2017

“We are delighted to reach first place first place on TripAdvisor, as it really rewards us for our work.” Says our restaurant director, Emmanuel Lachenal, “This first year allowed us to refine our concept to have a successful restaurant today. For this winter we will keep the same formula as this summer, opening every day for lunch and dinner, and serving our great value menu of the day. We’re looking forward to keeping up the high standards of cuisine and service well into the future.”

Fine wines, cocktails, coffees, the bar is equipped for all your favourite drinks!

“We visited this smart restaurant set in a new development. There is an excellent wine list and comfy seating for drinks pre-dinner. The food is beautiful fresh European style, quite unlike most places in Les Gets. The prices were very reasonable for such high quality. Very tasty cod with beautiful arrangement of veg and one of the best tart tatins ever.” – Busby22bee

This autumn, Vina Annapurna will be open from 12pm – 2pm and 7pm – 10pm from Wednesday to Sunday, and daily from mid-December. If you’re in Les Gets over the next few months we’d love to see you and hear what you think of the autumn menu! We’re also really happy to announce that Tania will be back with a selection of friends to to provide the soundtrack to your dinner on the following dates:

Vina Annapurna Restaurant and Wine Bar Open Year Round in Les Gets

The ski lifts may have closed in Les Gets just this weekend, but there’s still plenty going on in the area. Spring is a great time to enjoy the peace and tranquility of the mountains before the resort gets busy for summer again. There are lots of great hiking and running trails to explore, the roads are nice and quiet for cycling, and while there aren’t many open bars and restaurants, you’ll be happy to know that our exclusive restaurant and wine bar, Vina Annapurna, is one of the only restaurants in Les Gets to stay open all year round.

It’s almost a year since we opened the doors at Vina Annapurna and we’re really excited about how it’s going. Located inside our award-winning Les Gets development, Annapurna, and headed up by Alpine Restaurants’ executive chef, Michelin trained Antony Trezy, Vina Annapurna has been going from strength to strength.
The restaurant has a carefully selected menu made up of local, seasonal produce to create delicious modern variations of classic French and Savoyard dishes. These have gone down a storm with customers and homeowners – in particular the Annapurna chicken caesar salad! We’re also delighted to be able to offer a fine selection of wines and cocktails, and are very proud to have earned a five-star rating on Trip Advisor.

Throughout last summer and winter we also enjoyed regular jazz nights from Tania Ivanov and friends. Les Gets to host 2022 MTB World Championships

There’s a lot of great stuff going on in Alpine Lodges’ home resorts at the moment. Just a few months ago Courchevel announced it’ll be hosting the 2023 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships, and now Les Gets also has some exciting news; the resort will be hosting the 2022 UCI Mountain Bike World Championships, as well as at least four World Cup races over the next three summers!

As a world-renowned mountain biking resort, Les Gets has a rich history of hosting mountain biking events. For the past three years, mountain bike world tour and competition series, Crankworx, has stolen the show, but the last time Les Gets hosted a world cup event was in 2002, followed by the World Championships in 2004. The standalone World Championship is a huge event in the mountain biking calendar, where the best riders in the world battle it out over two days and the fastest is crowned World Champion. The World Cup is a series of races that take place in different resorts across the world throughout the summer, with notable stop-offs including Fort William in Scotland, Vallnord in Andorra and Mont Sainte Anne in Canada. At the end of the series, the winner is the person who has gained the most points over the season.

Les Gets is no stranger to hosting downhill mountain bike races. Photo: Omar Pistamiglio / Les Gets Office de Tourisme

The UCI Mountain Bike World Championships and the Word Cup races each include downhill and cross country races, so there’s something for everyone, but in Les Gets we’re predicting downhill will be the real crowd pleaser. Both events will see keen mountain bikers from all over the world flock to Les Gets to watch the action and ride its world-famous trails.

Here are the provisional World Cup race dates over the next four summers:
  • 13th – 14th July 2019: Downhill and Cross Country World Cup races.
  • 19th – 20th September 2020: Downhill and Cross Country World Cup Finals.
  • 2021: Les Gets is currently a candidate to organise and host the Downhill and Cross Country World Cup Finals.
  • 24th – 28th August 2022: Downhill and Cross Country WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS!

That’s right. Just next summer the Les Gets will be filled with some of the world’s best mountain bikers and keen spectators in what promises to be an action-packed few days of mind blowing riding. We’re sure there will be lots of action off the trails as well; those mountain bikers aren’t often known for their partying but no doubt Les Gets will be putting on some spectacular evening events, live music acts and big brand bike tests. We can’t wait to see what the resort puts together in terms of race tracks, either.

If you’re interested in a new home in Les Gets, we’re currently reserving off-plan in our latest Les Gets development, Kinabalu, and we have a small number of completed apartments available in our Annapurna residence, where home owners will benefit from an in-house spa and bistro. Get in touch with our Les Gets office for more details.

What’s new in Les Gets for winter 2018/19?

It’s September which means it’s officially time to start getting excited about winter! Les Gets is one of our favourite resorts for its picture postcard village feel with family-friendly ski-in / ski-out access, but it’s far from a sleepy ski town. Les Gets really comes to life in the winter, with exciting events for adults and kids alike, some incredible skiing and exceptional bars and restaurants. There’s always something happening, be it a new event, a new restaurant or updates to the ski area. Here’s all the new additions we’ve got to look forward to this winter.

A Folie Douce for the Portes du Soleil

Part of the massive Franco-Swiss Portes du Soleil ski area, Les Gets is just a short ski away from Avoriaz, which this winter will be the home of a brand new Folie Douce. Providing the world’s most iconic mountain restaurant experience, at the Folie Douce you can expect daily live music, cabaret shows, an electric atmosphere, and top-notch food and drink.

Les Gets is looking forward to some early opening dates and a new piste this winter. Photo: N Joly / Les Gets Office de Tourisme

New Opening Dates

Les Gets is always one of the first Portes du Soleil resorts to offer summer mountain biking, opening its bike park at weekends from the end of May, and this year it’s taking the sentiment to winter. Providing we have the snow conditions, Les Gets will open at the weekends from the 24th November, which is even earlier than the Portes du Soleil’s highest and most snow-sure resort, Avoriaz. Fingers crossed for early snowfalls!

Winter Lounge Music Festival

The Les Gets Lounge Music Festival is a cool and casual music festival that takes place in the village over two weeks in August. This March will see the first ever Winter Lounge Music Festival, featuring a range of genre-spanning musical performances and intimate concerts every day throughout the town’s bars and restaurants. You’ll have a huge range to pick from every day, making for excellent après sessions and atmospheric dinners out; the perfect excuse to get out and enjoy the spring weather!

The Lounge Music Festival is a big part of summer in Les Gets, and now it will be in the winter, too. Photo: V Ductrettet / Les Gets Office de Tourisme

Vina Annapurna’s First Winter

Our first restaurant in Les Gets, Vina Annapurna, is busy preparing for its first winter. The restaurant has been open all summer, serving a delicious menu created with the best regional and seasonal products and winter will be no different. Located in our prestigious Annapurna residence in the centre of Les Gets, this winer Vina Annapurna will be offering delicious breakfasts, lunches and dinners, as well as a fantastic wine and cocktail selection. We can tell you the food is absolutely incredible and we’re really excited for you to try it!

Vina Annapurna offers an incredible selection of regional and seasonal produce.

Les 100 Ciels d’Hiver

Another summer event transitioning to winter, Les 100 Ciels is a week-long collection of wellness-themed workshops, seminars, classes and treatments that encourages us all to relax and take care of ourselves. This winter, Les 100 Ciels d’Hiver will be bringing the same concept to the snow. Taking place at the end of January, there will be lots of wellbeing options to choose from, taking place both on and off the snow.

New Winter E-Bike Tracks

As winter e-biking grows in popularity, Les Gets is getting ahead of the trend. This winter the resort plans to open a permanent ‘fat bike’ track between the summit of Mont Chery and the alpages of Mont Caly. Perfect for everyone from keen mountain bikers to complete first timers, electric fat bikes (as you can probably guess) have fat tyres that grip the snow and an electric motor that makes those uphill sections much more manageable. Look out for free winter e-bike demos and taster sessions at the foot of the pistes throughout the winter.

A New Piste

Les Gets is always working on making its ski area more accessible so as many people as possible can explore the resort. This winter will see the opening of a new blue piste in the Perrieres sector, which starts at the Perrieres car park at the bottom of town. The new blue run will allow skiers and snowboarders to easily return to the base of the Express Perrieres chairlift, which will not only open up new possibilities to intermediates and beginners, but also disperse piste traffic, and provide easier access to the car park and residences in the Perrieres area.

If any of this sounds appealing to you and you think you’s like to invest in a new home in Les Gets, we’re currently reserving off-plan in our new Les Gets residence, Kinabalu. Kinabalu is a centrally-located collection of one- to six-bedroom apartments with an in-house spa, restaurant and concierge service. Get in touch with our team in Les Gets for more details.

10 Unmissable things to see and do this summer in Les Gets

Les Gets is the perfect example of a small mountain town that’s grown to attract visitors and residents from all over the world, but still retains its charming Alpine atmosphere. While already well-known winter destination, Les Gets’ summers are starting to catch the eye of more and more mountain bikers, hikers and families as a summer holiday haven as well. Namely because of its incredible array of events and attractions over the warmer months. Here’s our pick of the best.

1 – Crankworx Les Gets, 20th – 24th June

Crankworx is one of the main events of the European mountain biking calendar and it’s definitely a spectacle not to be missed! Kicking off the summer season with a bang, the week sees the world’s best riders come together for a week of competition, including slopestyle, downhill and Speed & Style, which is always amazing to watch. Visitors can also enjoy testing out bikes from all the major brands, alongside live music and parties in the evenings and of course, lots of riding and other MTB-themed goings on.

2 – The International Mechanical Music Festival, 21st – 22nd June

Did you know one of Les Gets’ main attractions is that it’s home to the Museum of Mechanical Music? This unique museum holds a fascinating collection of working devices documenting the colourful history of automated music before the birth of tapes and CDs. It’s also why Les Gets hosts the International Festival of Mechanical Music every other summer. The weekend sees mechanical music enthusiasts get together in the town centre and display their beautifully handcrafted musical devices to the public. Visitors will also have access to demonstrations, concerts and workshops that will provide a fun and exciting insight into musical history.

3 – Pass’Portes du Soleil, 29th June – 3rd July

Pass’Portes du Soleil is one of the biggest weekends of the summer across all the resorts in the Portes du Soleil, and anyone can take part. Thousands of entrants every year will spend a weekend riding mountain bikes around the twelve resorts of the PDS, something which can only take half a day on skis but is a little more tiring on a bike! A great way to explore the area and challenge yourself, the event also includes a kids’ trail and a walking trail, as well as a salon where you can test lots of different bikes, so there’s something for everyone.

4 – Lounge Music Festival, 6th – 18th August

Now in its eighth year, the Lounge Music Festival is fast-becoming a Les Gets institution. A laid-back and relaxed two weeks of music using the bars, restaurants and outdoor spaces of the village as its venue, this is a great chance to discover a huge range of new artists. Performers range from local bands and singers to groups from all over the world – and it’s all free. The Lounge Music Festival always syncs up with a performance from a big French star; this year it’s Slimane, winner of the fifth series of The Voice France.

5 – Local Produce Galore

Les Gets is home to a whole host of artisans and craftspeople, who make everything from cheese to furniture. Once an old logging village, wooden traditions are still going strong in the town and there are numerous shops where you can buy hand-crafted wooden furniture and trinkets. Les Gets is also home to lots of working farms that you can visit and purchase home-made produce such as cheeses, cured meats, honey and confitures. La Ferme de Caroline even puts on casual evenings where you can enjoy a meal made with ingredients raised, grown and prepared on the farm.

6 – Wibit Aquapark

Nestled among the pistes and bike trails of Les Gets is a charming little swimming lake that’s perfect for family picnics and sunbathing. Over the summer months it’s also home to Wibit Aquapark, a giant inflatable obstacle course that takes up residence in the lake. Amazing fun for adults and kids alike, good times are guaranteed.

7 – Golf

Did you know Les Gets is home to a beautiful mountain golf club? It might not be what the town is most well-known for but for golf fans it’s a massive plus. After all, who wouldn’t want to play a few holes with the added bonus of beautiful mountain views, balmy temperatures and maybe even a few marmots on the green?

8 – Hiking for Everyone

Les Gets has a huge range of hiking trails and is linked to the massive Portes du Soleil area by the expansive lift network. Beautiful wildflowers, getting to share the footpaths with friendly Alpine cows and incredible panoramic views of Mont Blanc are just a few of the things that make hiking in Les Gets such a pleasure. Trails range from the family-friendly to more extreme scrambles, so there’s something for everyone.

9 – The Portes du Soleil Multi Pass

The Multi Pass is the perfect option for anyone visiting Les Gets who’s not mountain biking. It gives you access to the huge Portes du Soleil lift and bus network, as well as free entry to lots of other attractions across the twelve resorts, like swimming pools, swimming lakes, historical attractions, mini-golf and tennis courts. And if you’re staying in Multi Pass accredited accommodation it only costs €2 per day, win!

Mountain E Park is an innovative environmentally-friendly initiative that offers electric trials bike lessons and courses for kids. The only venture of its kind in France, it allows kids to explore the mountains and learn a new skill in a safe environment and without the noise and air pollution normally associated with motorbikes. Look out for Mountain E Park in the winter, too; they also offer electric snowmobile sessions for kids.
